Friday Sharing w/You

Friday, November 1

Thank you for reading my Friday Sharing w/You postings with your feedbacks.

Lately, someone mentioned that he misses my teachings and ended asking me why do I provide a banana in every workshop of mine? Other than the answer on how to peel and eat a banana correctly, is there another “real” answer? Another said that I treat all of you as monkeys that is why I give out bananas?!!!

Yes, till today I am still passing out bananas during my workshops because it is a very simple yet important element or metaphor/analogy on how to achieve Quality Work, Quality Life. If you want to achieve Quality Work, Quality Life like me then you will have to find the banana’s story yourself. But, if you have Sin$5,665 and want to stay out of any monkey’s business, I will share this power banana’s story with you. In fact, for $5,665 I will give two bananas’ stories (not answer). One of them I learned from my Japanese friend who teaches me Lean Manufacturing.  For those who are experts or applying Lean System in your workplace, you should know the Japanese banana story. If not, then I don’t know where or how you learn your Lean System from? Try Googling if you really want to save Sin$5,665 in obtaining the answer. After learning from my Japanese friend, my motto is to steal what I can learn from them and make it better and throw it back out to the world. Yes, I did a better job using it in my Unexpected Quality Journey. So, for Sin$5,665 I will share my quality banana’s story with you. If you happen to travel to Tokyo, Japan, you must buy the Japanese banana biscuits, they are really awesome!

Anyway, today there is hardly anything to be learned from the Japanese or the Western worlds. We have to find a way to learn from within ourselves. Connecting with each other whether from the East or West it doesn’t really matters. The ‘likes’ attach the ‘likes’ and learn together.

Interestingly, I would like to bring you back 30 years ago when Singapore is looking for the best practices in Service Quality Education. We went to the West (US) to look for answers but it became a joke as the Westerners told us to go back and look within ourselves. In fact, we have the best Service Quality standard in the world which is our national airline, SIA! The Singapore Girl is our Service Icon in the world…so “sotongly” (stupidly) we are back home and formed the Service Quality Boot-Camp with our National airplane, SIA. For those lucky ones, during that time you got the Singapore Girl side by side with you in the class is a real motivational effect. If I am correct, today one of the Middle East Airline Service Quality standard is on par with Singapore airplane, SIA. How come? They not only copy shamelessly, they do something better than me…You have the answer. Nowadays, many countries’ governments, civil personnel are here to learn from Singapore. That is one reason why I venture out to teach my quality and safety stuff instead of them coming to Singapore looking for me. I hope I did the unexpected right thing!

After reading my 3 children stories about me, someone asked me what is story telling?

If you have not read it, please go ahead to read the postings dated August 30 (Cheryl) September 13 (Desmond) and October 25 (Clarissa).

If you have children, I suggest you can persuade them to write a few stories about you otherwise when you are gone, you never know what stories you leave behind in your children memories. You can use my children stories to share with them in motivating them. If you can’t influence or persuade your children in doing so, then it is time that you engage me to teach you on storytelling skills and techniques.

You must be also wondering how come my children are willing to share their dad’s stories? The mantra is simple: “The family that always eat together stay together, where we share stories.”

Again thank you all for reading my children stories.

Seriously, everyone needs storytelling skill which I started in year 2000. My personal story is to learn, share everything I have learned and have the right to earn my right to charge a small fee of Sin$5,665 where you will find everything I know about using stories to influence others.

Stories make intangible become tangible
Companies can buy big machines, equipment, have big facilities and hired the most talented people but without stories, there is no life and nothing moves. It is the intangible that makes the most money. Today, in Singapore the government is pushing SME for productivity, (I call it Boh-Ta-Boh-Ti) and wasted a lot of taxpayers’ monies. They financed SME with monies and now penalised them for wrongful ways of usage. Most government provide you with the carrot and later with the stick too.

Stories sell you
Your story is the first and later others sell you, hopefully not a idiot doing it.

Stories engage.
Stories pull, others push. Stories is a wonderful way to subvert people to your point of view. That is why our grandmothers’ stories are still working today. Gossip is also a form of storytelling that engages.

Stories engage the wallet
That is how the con man takes your money through the internet with so many spams happening. Stories is so powerful that many use it negatively till everyone does it which is the so called “white-liar”. I hope you can use story to engage the wallet in positive ways.

Stories make difficult issues easier.
Lately, I learned that many people can’t get their messages across. They enrolled for public speaking trainings but failed because storytelling is not public speaking.

Use stories to advance your career not MBA.

Use stories to take charge of your career, go and sell your stories because very rarely in life do people sit there presenting opportunities to you. You have to venture and sell your stories by making things happen. When you feel as though you have hit a brick wall or are stuck in a place then change your story. If possible, change employer or boss if you have no mortgage on hands. No mortgage means No Fear! But, if you are tied down by mortgages and unable to change your employer then use stories as an option to change your role within the company, do something about it. Don’t just be stuck in that rut, people need to know your stories. The best time to plant a durian tree was about 7-8 years. The better time is now.” Go plant your story now, if you need help, help is here at Daniel@qualipreneur.com, and my fees is at Sin$5,665.

Don’t hesitate anymore! Approach your bosses in engaging FSY to instill storytelling. There are 6 stories you must get them correctly to be successful in achieving Quality Work, Quality life.

A thought for you…
People complained that they can’t do this and that. If you look at our lives and concentrate on things that we don’t have or wish to have, that doesn’t change the circumstances. The truth is that we have to focus on what we have and make the best out of it… that is your story, sell it!
