Today Sharing:

Why should you be less creative at work once in awhile?

 

My personal opinion is that too much creativity can make you a nuisance to your boss.

 

I’m not creative.

I’m just intelligent, able to judge my work, and tweak existing ideas so that’s it’s just right. That’s FSY.

 

If you are a global machine that produces 5,000 burgers a minute, creativity on the production line is not recommended. And that often, the smart thing for a business to do is to forget new ideas and go on doing what has been doing, that’s Quality Certainty.

 

You can disagree with me, but these are 3 things that you don’t need to be creative for.

 

(F) For a start, it is right. You don’t need creativity, you need Quality Certainty.

 

(S)Secondly, it is also right.  To survive, companies need to change from time to time. But you don’t need creativity. What you need are people with intelligence (not smart people, smart people are lazy people. We tend to overuse the word SMART in Singapore’s context) and good judgment to work out the right variations on existing processes.

 

(Y)Youniquely, it is damn right.  The most nonsensical thing that ever happened in the workplace was sending people to seminar workshop to play with Lego bricks, to construct their own versions of a creative workplace.

 

Asking a working adult to pretend to be kids playing with colorful Lego bricks to unleash a flow of creativity? You… Boleh (Can), Bodoh (Silly) or Sotong (Humdrum)

 

Rewards for their ideas and creativity are dead because most companies have no use for real creativity at all. Creativity is surely not what the company is after in the first place. What companies after is to make more money and not forgetting to Love Safety. At the end of the day what organizations need is Quality Certainty not creativity.

 

In today’s chaotic business environment, you need to employ a mix of more senior workers who have that sort of (F)Familiarity, a bit (S)Surprise & (Y)Youniqueness to tweak your existing processes, write an elegant SOP, and bring tons of experience, knowledge, practice, judgment, skill, and intelligence. And not forgetting most older worker love to read, write and think intelligently. Creativity barely comes into it. This is not to insult to smart or creative people, rather, it is to compliment it.
