Trust, Coffee & Feeling

With Coffee, FSY is in Control, that’s what I have been repeating, but to achieve Quality Work and Quality Life in any organization you need 3 types of glue to hold it together – that’s Trust, Coffee & Feeling.

Trust is universal.

Organizations with high levels of cultural trust tend to produce high-quality products and services at less cost because they can recruit and retain highly motivated employees. These employees are more likely to enjoy their work, take the time to do their jobs correctly; make their own decisions, take risks, innovate, embrace the organization’s vision, mission, and values, as well as display organizational Quality behavior.


When you slow down, listen, share some opinions, ask questions and sip a little coffee, you are setting a tone and send a powerful message that what matters here are PEOPLE. Learning to relax and trust is not necessarily easy, like taking time off to buy FSY coffee is never easy and hardly happens nowadays.


People are attached to organizations that are known for Quality Work, Quality Life. Employees at the lower levels of the organizations want to be trusted enough to call the shots, just like those with a managerial or executive title. Organization on the Unexpected Quality journey (UQJ) encourage individual decision-making at all levels of the organization structure. The employee who operates the machines, assembles the products or welds the sub-parts are trusted to know what needed to be done and how it ought to be accomplished.

The need to develop skills for attending to employees’ feeling, trust and taking time off for coffee are ideas. That has been the most difficult transition to many organizations. Yet, it is a fundamentally important factor. Many managers or leaders which I have worked with are not good at dealing with feelings. They are occasionally lulled into a sense of complacency, believing that they can recognize and handle just about any “FAST” circumstances that they are faced. – (F) Frustration. (A) Angry (S) Sensitivity (T) Temperament

When we ignore people’s feelings, we inevitably ignore the people who experiencing them. That’s one of many reasons I think why the productivity effort never prevail in Singapore, anyway I coined it “Boh-Ta-Boh-Ti” When you ignore people feeling, they pull all the stop of “ABC”. They stop being (A) Authentic, they stop (B) Believing in you, they stop being (C) Creative and bringing talent and energy into the workplace.

If you are going to learn better ways of successfully managing people and achieve Quality Work, Quality Life, you have to include “FSY – (F) Feeling, (S) Sincerity & (Y) Youniquely rationality.

Trust matters, so do feelings and a cup of coffee, that the 3 types of glue to achieve Quality Work, Quality life.

Don’t forget to take time off to buy me coffee… this is a good time to include durians.
