FSY Week 33 - Just Love Me

Hi there! Happy Friday! I hope your week has been going great so far!

Quick Quotable
Empathy is putting yourself in another’s shoes. Humility is putting the other in your shoes.

Today Sharing,
Whenever I travel or doing something I always ask myself, what have I learn?

Here are few things that I learned during our 4 days driving trip to the East side of Malaysia:

1. Give clear and precise instructions. We are dealing with adults so there is no need to repeat trivial things over and over.

2. Firm advice must be given in an amicably way especially to paying customers. Shouting will only make someone more angry or nervous depending on the situation and thus resulting in negative result either way.

3. I believe that accidents do happen whether we seek it or not and when we intend to do something adventurous, of course, all precautions are adhered. People taking risk tend to much safer than someone walking on the street.

4. People go on holiday to relax and not treated as some corporate organized team retreat. Adults never like to be treated as children. Understand that we have our concern and passion.  BUT there is always a “BUT”.

5. Make use of the word “Feedback” instead of “Complain”. Should there be a need to sound someone out NEVER single this individual out publicly and shoot him.  You have indirectly made individual “World Famous” in the wrong way. If I am doing that in my workshop then I will totally lost this participant for the next few days.

6. In my workshop, I teach my participants that there are about 2,000 words in the dictionary that we shouldn’t use. Some examples are Busy, Sorry, Urgent, Complain, ASAP, Proper, or properly, etc. Try not to say “Sorry” for 6 months; you will notice a huge change in your behaviour.

7. Never criticize or link an individual’s behaviour to his/her professional. Example: “Daniel, You teach safety and yet drive unsafely”. I didn’t drive unsafely, it is people’s perception and please never judge people too fast. Yes, my professional is Health, Safety & Environment (HSE). But, I sell Transformation not teaching safety.  I teach Speed Wins, Make Money & Love Safety; 赚钱第一; 安全在我心! and Quality Work; Quality Life”!

8. In briefing, it is very important to focus on the main point – don’t detour to unrelated stories. If there is a need to use an example, do it quickly and return to your main topic or else, you will lose your audience in the first few seconds. I learned to always focus on the power of 3, that is 3 points – A, B, C.

9. Never tell an adult that you all “hear but never listen”.  Always remember that when you point one finger at someone, you are actually pointing 3 fingers back toward yourself.

10. One must relook at why the audience is lost that “they hear but never listen”? Never compare previous briefings/outings to the current as no one is really interested.  Is there any conclusion or action items to takeaway? Summary your points and takeaway.

This trip I learned that there are bound to be some hiccups in whatever you do. I learned to take the “complain” or feedback with a pinch of salt.

I also understand that we all work hard, achieve a lot, conduct ourselves honestly and decently, and to do everything we can to earn respect. Yet, there is still within anyone’s power to dislike and disparage us. We cannot control what other people think or say about us but, what is within our power is the way we respond.

These 4 days highlands drive to the east side of Malaysia has many plus points. With many pit-stops where we get to appreciate exquisite Malaysia kampung foods. At one pit-stop, we learn how they baked rice in bamboo. We heard a lot about Japanese green tea and on this trip, we learned that Malaysia also has a few special herbal tea. We cruised the windy road along the South China Sea and ended the last pit-stop with shopping for different kinds of dry fishes that we hardly know about.

Whoever says that they drive to Malacca or Kuala Lumpur is now a joke to my 2 children, Desmond & Clarissa. You have never driven yet until you try this Highland Drive to the East side of Malaysia. This is where our rich Singaporean people drove their sports cars to do their test drives.

As always, I’ll be available to connect for discussion on these ideas. If you’d like to dive deeper, just email me at

Everyone loves quality 2013-Dec-29

Friday - I Love Quality

My FSY’s sharing is unscientifically and some are contributed by wife & children, friends, acquaintances. I write and share things that matter to me. I understand that everyone have their own opinions, views, & thoughts. There are no right or wrong answers. Nothing is true or untrue, most facts and data can be twisted to your favour.

To the authors, contributors and original sources, my thanks and where appropriate my apologies if I forget to quote your names.

Friday - if you keep reading

I understand that everyone’s attention span is very short and if you read till here, I would like to say thank you for staying with me till the end. It might be rubbishes to some people but I do know that there are some gems hidden to be picked in all rubbishes… Hope you have pick one or 2 gems?

On behalf of myself, me and I, we wish you, your family and loved ones a Fun, Safe, & Youniquely happy and blessed days ahead

LOVE 24/7

Someone said we have 2 choices everyday LOVE or FEAR, I chose LOVE. If you are holding my 3rd workshop book, I have used the word “LOVE” to talk about Leadership on page 14 – “Leaders Stay in LOVE”.

When you tell your friends and family (and/or me – thank you) that you love us – do you take the extra few seconds to become mindful?

Do you ever take a moment to stop and let that really sink in? LOVE.
